if a tree fell in the forest and there was no one around to hear it, would it still make a sound?
yes because a tree falling over would obviously cause waves. / ‘no because sound is the perception of these waves by creatures so if there are none around there is no sound’
HOLD UP – ‘would it still make a sound’
‘it’ is the tree. the question is asking if the tree is making sound. does the tree falling make waves? yes. does the actual tree itself make the human perception of waves? no. but then again it’s not the actual tree making the sound, it’s everything the tree hits on the way down and the floor that make sound by reacting with the tree. a tree can’t ‘make’ sound like I can choose to make sound out of my face. but am I truly creating sound or is that just air moving through some pulsing organic lump. basically the question wins for making everybody’s discussions irrelevant.
WOAH TREE. STOP FUCKING UP EVERYONE’S SHIT.
